After finishing my breakfast that my lovely daughters help make and heading off to Home Depot, to get a new grill (whoo hoo!!!) , I thought I’d take a quick second to wish all fathers a happy Father’s day. From where my father is no longer with us my thoughts always seem to turn to a grander scale and I think about not only my father but his father who I never met and those before him. I wonder what they were like and if they are proud of the things I’m doing. I then remember that they are always with us no matter what. It is a great comfort to know that we are never alone. So how do pipes relate to all of this? I think it’s the connection/honor thing. If my ancestors at some point played the pipes or at a minimum they probably liked the pipes, hopefully my playing honors them in some small way. It’s one of those connections I think the pipes somehow inherently have. Maybe that’s why my pull to them was so strong but enough of my ramblings and and thoughts. Again I hope everyone has a great Father’s Day and I’ll see everyone tomorrow night.

I met some of your lads yesterday in Washington DC at the wedding, and you took our breaths away. I was in shock to learn you are from here in the States. You all look and sound so original , as if you came over right off the boat! You topped Fiona and Brads wedding off brilliantly. There were many of us Scots and Brits in the room, and you made our hearts swell with pride to the point of tears. I love the genuine look, and thanks for keeping the memory of my old battalion, the Argyll’s alive!!!! Keep it going,. You do not see that much outside Scotland. My friend says that your Pipie may bring you up on in a few weeks to play for the Ambassador and General Ghilchrist. I will see you there!!!
PS. Some of us old war horses gave out big hoots as you marched off to Scotland the Brave and Black Bear. I hope you heard us.
Alba gu brath! Brendan Darroch
Brendan, Thanks for the generous comments! I hope we do hear back from the gentleman on the event at his residence for General Ghilchrist and the Ambassador.
We have a fine organization, I have to brag. Everything you see about them, they did on their own with hard fund raising efforts and lots of practice. Come on down to Richmond and follow our schedule. Just by chance, do you know Sgt. Steve Young (ret)? He now work for the Trust at Stirling Castle. He’s a good friend of mine. He was kind enough to take me and my wife upstairs and review my great grandfathers’ service record and WW1 honors. I crave to get back over, but with airfares increasing, a boat might be more econimical these days
Email the pipe major on our website and I’ll send you my residential address along with other contact information.
Aye! Tim, the Pipie.
